Guided Walks in the Park

Latest News / Blog 13.04.22: Busy weekend again getting ready for Easter.

Working for Raw again leading a group along side fellow leader Tabitha, they were very lucky with the weather as only a couple

of days before we failed to reach the summit with Lucy & Hugo due to storm force winds at the top.

First Warden duty day as well on Saturday, after three Snowdon days I was ready for some down time ready for the busy Easter weekend.

Smoe pics of my Raw Adventures day out.

Latest News / Blog 03.04.22: Winter is back on the hills

After a weekend of sun we were treated to a dumping of snow and a bitter East wind for this weekends work with Raw Adventures Maria and her two sons had been to the summit so a nice walk around the mountain proved to be a great and still challenging day for them.

Latest News / Blog 12.03.22: Siabod in the Wind!

Finally managed to get out and had a great walk with Andy to reach the summit of Siabod.

Was not sure if we would get to the top with winds of 60+ mph but with good route selection and local knowledge we missed most of it apart from the top,  certainly no cobwebs left now!

April is fast approaching and bookings are strong so I am hoping for some calmer weather!

Latest News / Blog 10.03.22: Calendar Updated

Due to more booking being received I have updated the Calendar, book early to secure your walking event date!

Latest News / Blog 22.02.22: Rain, Wind & Snow!

Dues to the recent horrible weather there has been very limited activity walking the hills so, nothing to  report really.

However,  bookings are coming in for the coming months so it will not be too long before we can get out there again.

Latest News / Blog 23.01.22: Industrial history talk on Snowdon.

Heads up for a Walk/ Talk  (a glimpse into the industrial past of Snowdon and the area) I am delivering for the Snowdonia Society on April 22nd. This will be a walk over the mountain taking the Llanberis Path and returning down the Miners Track.

Details will be published by the Snowdonia Society shortly.

Latest News / Blog 22.01.22: Maddie, Ellie, Phoebe & Will make it to the summit.

Taking advantage of the vanished snow and ice on the West side of the mountain I was able to take up this great group of youngsters up to the summit of Snowdon. Having tried unsuccessfully due to the snow and ice on the Pyg track  they were very keen to complete their challenge.

A little rime ice over the last 100mtrs (most of which we avoided) gave us that wintry feel without having to use winter equipment etc.

The weather was great on the day, although forecast as minus 12 with windchill the sun lifted those temps  three or four degrees.

Another fab day out on our fantastic mountain.

Latest News / Blog 29.12.21. Mixed weather for the festive break:

It has been a very mixed bag of weather for us here, lots of rain turning to snow on higher ground but then disappearing as the temperature rises. Myself and Julia (first Sunrise event for her)  went up Snowdon for a "Sunrise" a few days ago and we were not disappointed.

As it was quite busy at the summit we then headed up Garnedd Ugain to do a little more exploring.

Most of the snow has now gone from the mountain but I am sure it will be back very soon for some winter adventures.

Latest News / Blog 02.12.21: Yr Eifl & the Coastal Path

On the to-do list was those mountains we see in the far distance as we climb Snowdon via the Llanberis Path, known wrongly as "the Rivals" it was actually Yr Eifl that I went up.

Accompanied on the day by flower & plant specialist Julia Miflin  we started at Trefor taking the stunning Coastal Path before heading across country to get to the summit.

This was my first visit to what was once the largest granite quarry in the world and the remaining buildings are of epic proportions and stand magnificently as a reminder of the past industry, well worth a visit.

Included in the photos below is a Carneddau pony taken on a visit to Crimpiau at the weekend.

Latest News / Blog 27.11.21

Saturday I delivered a workshop "A glimpse into the industrial past of Snowdon" to several Caru Eryri volunteers who had been working hard all over Snowdonia during the season.

The weather was kind to us as we delved into the fascinating history of this special mountain and we had a great day out.

Latest News / Blog 07.11.21: Finally catching up!

After a nudge from Sue one of my friends and Blog readers I thought I had better update with news etc.  Needless to say it has been pretty manic here in Snowdonia and I have been out and about quite a bit on various walks and adventures, far too many to list of course but I will add a few pics at the bottom as usual.

The season has now finished for me with pre-booked work but I will still be out on the hills keeping the mountain legs active.

We have our end of season Volunteer Wardens quiz and refreshments at Steff's cafe but with lack of parking space most of us will be walking up that steep tarmac road to get there, and back!

I have agreed to put on a special guided walk "A glimpse into the industrial past of Snowdon" for some of the Caru Eryri Volunteers who have been very busy all season all around the National Park.

My work has been vary varied over the past weeks, freelancing for various companies, mostly on Snowdon as that is where people want to go! I have met lots of interesting and lovely people and been out in varying weathers some resulting in abandoning walks before the summits. Lots of interesting stories now to be told for many years to come including those pesky lunch eating sheep at the summit!

I have now decided not to take on any more night walks or N3Peaks challenges as it plays havoc with my body time clock and at 70 I think I have done my fair share, could always be an exception for the right reason though:)

A few pics below of some of the outings during the past few weeks, some of them are of me getting a wetting whilst out on Warden duty, enjoy and will post again soon, Keith

latest News / Blog 20.09.21

Working for Raw Adventures Climb Snowdon once again I had the pleasure in supporting Ayodele and his family over from Nigeria to celebrate his 53rd birthday on Snowdon.

A tough challenge for them as they were new to the mountains and our wet, cold and windy weather conditions, we had a fantastic day out though with everybody making it to the summit.

Latest News / Blog: 03.09.21 Mad busy week here on Snowdon!

It has been a very busy week here for me with four Snowdon trips in five days but, what a five days!

Working for Glyn Peris B&B taking John & June up for their first Snowdon trip, a dodgy tummy made June's trip more of an adventure than she signed up for. But all was well and we had a great day out.

That day was followed by a 2am morning start for a 3 Peaks challenge, busy roads saw a delay of four hours so a bit of a lie in for me.

Next up was Clare and her two boys for their first Snowdon Adventure, travelling all the way from Watford we were also joined by trainee ML Andy who was consolidating his group management skills. What a fab fun filled day we had, the weather was kind although chilly at the top and I am sure they will all remember their day out.

Last outing saw me working for Raw Adventures Climb Snowdon along with three other MLs supporting Greater Manchester Youth Network who were on a sponsored walk raising money for 42nd Street a charity raising funds for mental heath of young people in Manchester.

This was a really tough walk for this bunch taking the extended route through Maesgwm and onto the Ranger Path eleven and a half miles with nearly 4000' of climb. Everyone did it and we even managed to get back on time for a pre booked dinner at the famous Petes Eats in Llanberis.

Nearly forgot to mention I attended my Mountain First Aid Course 2 day refresher, these are mainly conducted outside on the sides of hills and woods etc to add realism to what we actually do on the hill, the bodies in the photographs are not real and are ready for placement in various scenarios!

I Have one day off now before a weekend supporting volunteers of the Caru Eryri Scheme working on and around the lower flanks of Snowdon. Roll on Christmas!

Latest news / Blog 17.08.21  Birthday  Snowdon Surprise for Jason !

Nephew Jason along with his son Brad was treated to a walk up our big hill as part of his 50th birthday celebrations, this was a surprise  for him right up to the night before when he thought he was going to have a few beers with family who were all stopping at the fabulous Gwydyr hotel in Betws y Coed.

Both being members of the RAF, fitness was never going to be an issue and despite me bashing their ears on the way we still managed to get to the summit in just over two hours. Weather was decent although we lost the views at the top that didn't stop us having a great day on the hill.

Another surprise party waited for him on his return to the hotel where copious amounts of alcohol were downed along with celebration birthday cake! A perfect end to a great weekend.

Latest news / Blog 12.08.21: Bursting at the seams!

Wow there are a lot of people in Snowdonia at the moment even with the poor weather over the past few days the mountains have been really busy and so have I :)

Snowdon, Cader Idris, Aran Fawddwy and other locations have all been visited, Snowdon multiple times in all weathers!

Some photos from the days: Leah at Aran Fawddwy, and day out on Snowdon for Raw Adventures.

Latest news / Blog 26.07.21

Great weather here for the past few days has meant it has been very busy and very hot! Out with the Snowdonia Society with Julia and Jane we picked up far too much rubbish on Snowdon but it seems we have the same problem all over the park, very sad.

i did manage to have a day off at the zoo with grandaughter Emelia who thought it was ace to try on my sun hat, bless her,

More or less all weekends are now fully booked but weekdays are available if you would like to come and walk on our fantastic mountains. Cheers

Latest News & Blog 18.07.21

Well what a couple of weeks for me, lots of walks working mainly for Raw Adventures/Climb Snowdon which gave me the privilege to walk alongside ten year old Toby and his family as he took on his Snowdon challenge. Toby is a four limb paraplegic he has Cerebral Palsy which means he cannot walk unaided.

With the use of a stick or a holding hand he made it to the summit in five and a half hours, such an incredible achievement!!!

On he way down as a special treat the Snowdon Mountain Railway accommodated Toby and his Mum for a trip down in the Guards van, the rest of us had to walk!.

A fantastic end to an emotional incredible day.

02.07.2021: Some photos from my day working for Raw Adventures/Climb Snowdon, Manni and his crew picked the right day as the weather was really good. Although a challenging walk everybody dug in and had a fab day out on the mountain.

We continue to be very busy with most weekends until the end of August which means of course that the mountain will also be busy, weekdays are far quieter if you are able to come then.

Latest News/Blog

25.06.21: Big space since the last post mainly due to being very busy!  I have managed to get around the park quite a bit and it was nice to get onto Cader Idris for the first of many planned trips this year.

Snowdon of course is still the main target for anyone coming to Snowdonia and I have had plenty of trips up there with them!

This weekend sees me out on Saturday, Sunday & Monday with a couple of Snowdon trips and a day with Caru Eryri supporting a volunteer team on the Watkin Path and around Llyn Gwynant.

As its my 70th next week I have decided to keep away from the mountains at the weekend and will be chilling who knows where?

Couple of Photos from the past weeks:

08.06.21: The nice weather has arrived here along with the crowds!

Plenty of walks etc since my last blog, various trips on Snowdon and the Glyders with some Warden duty as well.

What is very noticeable are the number of people out here in Snowdonia, its staggering and quite frankly I don't think the area can cope. Trying to get food or refreshments always involves a lengthy queue, but we should not complain after the covid mponths!

I have a few available dates for anyone wanting to walk, weekends are very busy and if you can you should try to come on a week day if possible.

Photos below: Raw Climb Snowdon group, Snowdon Sunrise and Andy on one of our Glyder days out

19.05.2021: Another wet weekend in Snowdonia.

Saturday, the first work day for Raw Adventures Climb Snowdon turned out to be a soggy wet affair for the five guests I had. The original walk plan was changed to take an hour of ascent off due the to expected rain and possible thunder in the afternoon.

We still had a great day out and the sun came out (as it often does) on the way down.

Out again on the Sunday with the Warden team and yet another helping of Snowdonia's finest wet stuff to finish off the weekend.

06.05.21: The Snow is Back!

Gulshun and Geoff had an unexpected treat of walking in the snow for their first Snowdon adventure but that made the day even more memorable.

First group walk of the year with Natalie, Jamie, Chloe & Daniel. Weather was interesting to say the least but we had a fab day out!

Snowdon, Siabod and the Glyders

Posted on 11 December, 2020 at 16:10

Dodged the worst of the weather and managed to get three good days on the mountains, Snowdon was really good, working alongside Mike Raine delivering a workshop for qualified mountain leaders. A long day out coming off the hill in darkness but so much to talk about, this mountain packs it in!

Siabod was not a good day with howling winds and driving rain, that certainly swept away the cobwebs :(

Last week Myself and Andy did a Glyders traverse starting at Nant Peris taking the waterfall route up onto Y Garn and then following the ridgeline onto Elidir Fawr and then the very steep drop off back to NP.

This is a great day out and thankfully the weather held out for us although, the cloud was down on Elidir causing a slight nav error on the start of the  descent which meant an unpleasant short detour over the boulder field, really important that you are able to nav in these conditions. The next day the snow came down hard and fast but typical I was unable to get out to play.
